so what is strategic communications-2.png

Strategic communications can refer to a lot of things.

Strategic communications, also known as 'strat comms', is a relatively new term encompassing any discipline focused on communication. Previously, strat comms would have been called some variant of 'public relations.'

However, this term is pretty outdated. Strat comms is so much more than just PR.

Strat comms includes the typical disciplines of PR, such as copywriting, journalism, media management, advertising, marketing, crisis management, and campaign management, among others. But it has also grown to include web analytics, social media management, content creation, data visualisation, and anything else you can think of relating to online media.

Chances are, if you are interacting with a brand or service in any capacity, a strat comms practitioner is behind it.

My knowledge of strategic communications consistently influences my graphic design work. It's shifted my perspective on projects, how to effectively execute them, expanding the realm of possibilities, and ensuring the people interacting with the project are prioritised.

My work process can be described as service design.
